Ram Updates HD Pickup Lineup for 2012, Adds ESC and New Six-Speed Auto

June 24, 2011 at 12:23pm by Alexander Stoklosa

Ram has mildly updated its heavy-duty 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks for 2012, adding a few interior and exterior enhancements along with a new six-speed automatic transmission and electronic stability control. The new six-speed auto incorporates Ram’s Electronic Range Select featureâ€"available on 2011 2500/3500 trucksâ€"which allows drivers to limit the highest gear the transmission can shift into; a driver could set fourth gear as the “highest” gear, and the transmission won’t upshift past that ratio. The transmission also allows for manual gear selection. The 2012 Ram 2500 and 3500 HD receive the 1500’s schnoz treatment, but with a larger grille and accompanying taller hood with louvers on each side. An electronic trailer-brake controller is newly standard on SLT, Outdoorsman, Power Wagon, Laramie, and Laramie Longhorn HD models. Finally, the interior receives a new steering wheel with integrated audio and cruise control buttons. Otherwise, the 2012 Ram HD mode! ls are largely carry over, and feature the same engine lineup as before: a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 and optional 6.7-liter Cummins turbo-diesel inline-six, the latter of which is installed in our long-term 2500 Mega Cab 4×4.
